I´m more than grateful to have the opportunity to write this letter. May it serve you as a reminder that your journey can have its best story too. Keep thriving, Mylene!
Real talk here.
In the cozy environment of creation, writing, reading, and improving… there´s always a moment where an inevitable reflection takes place: what can I do next?
What are those things that I could do better? Which are the new opportunities I should put myself to run after?
This moment came. It was a dark night: a windy and rainy one.
After some time looking at the beautiful sky, and wandering through the valley of thoughts, I encounter this eagerness to wrap myself in an activity.
I wanted to continue planning, creating, or exploring, even though there was no need for that.
Although I knew my work for the day was done.
Knowing it was time for relaxation, for a playful block of recharge.
Have you felt this in some way or another?
Losing grip of your thoughts and fighting against the urge to keep up with them?
Well, this was the key moment where it hit me:
Creativity is a full-time job: your mind is always crafting the next piece, the next reference, the next experience.
As a creator my mind goes flowing with ideas, wildly creating a river that knows no extent, that knows nothing less than irrigating every soul it touches.
From stories to journal entries to poems, to reflections… I can´t stop living and breathing in these worlds.
It´s a wonderful process: lots of questioning, experimentation, going out on quests to find the best path for the craft, shouting out to the sky so that even the deepest roots of the tall forest trees can hear me out: hey world, I produced another gift for you. Come and see it.
But this process is more than that. It´s a vision.
It has become a vivid habit, just like breathing is essential for our survival, this vision is essential for our peace and overall feeling of achievement, yet it can be the one also endangering all of it.
Now you may be wondering, are there any measures to keep the right balance for creativity to come and go without any repercussions?
There are.
There should be more than one path to transit.
My biggest revelation was the game-changer for me: make it simple.
Creativity (at least this type of creativity) is measured by energy, feeling, process, and output.
It´s a valuable habit, a rare one many might add. We should aim to spice it up.
We do so by making it simple.
The best piece, your best work, your best victory is the one you put out there so that the chances of someone seeing it are high as they can be.
Well, the key then to making of creativity a good full-time job is to make the process a vivid experience.
A fun challenge to play with, one where´s there difficulty, but one that ignites your focus and work. Not your urge for distraction and “momentum” seeking.
This process should connect.
Should let you enter a constant flow: of ideas, practice, revision, and output. It shouldn´t make you eager for more than that, nor less.
Have a safe place for doing it. A safe moment, a great and fast bridge between concept and action.
That´s how you stack up wins, not how you stack up losing theories.
I really hope this key idea sparks some motivation to craft your own system.
Let it be your spark for developing a good relationship with your creative energy. It might be your best chance at creating something outstanding out of it.
If you have any more tips and tricks, or if you´d want to share your experience dealing with any type of similar situation, I would love and appreciate you sharing it.
Thanks for reading the letter,
Alex.
