Deny your self-limitation: stop being trapped.
On believes, doubts, and some fictional suspense. Welcome to your tower, citizen.
Imagine being trapped in such a compact and small space, so small that only other 499 people can be there, living and existing with you. There´s no way out of that place you need to call “home”.
Same activities. Same places to visit and stay. Same tight feeling. The days may pass without you even noticing, or worst, you might believe you are just doomed to an eternal never-end cycle, one which you are done with.
Your whole life is limited by 1 km2, big enough for you to hope for better, small enough to make you believe there´s no better at all. You dream big, you want different, but you remain consistent, obedient, fearful.
This is the main drama in the book “Take the Gun”, by Jorge Burgos, who kindly joined me today to share with you some thoughtful words. (I´m so grateful for it!)
Now, jumping back to the message I want to share with this story; there´s a lot of meaning if we take a closer look. The place our characters call “home”, in the story, is limited by 1 km2. It´s total control, even if they can grasp a view of freedom, adventure, and challenge outside those borders.
That 1 km2 traps our heroes. That 1 km2 is a prison that somehow makes the illusion of “safety”, certainty, and purpose.
Limitation is self-imposed. Denial is externally imposed. It is true, this tight area can be a form of denial. It denies our main characters the possibility to depart, to extend their vision.
And on the other hand, this 1 km2 can also resemble the limitation we sometimes put on ourselves. We tend to live so close-minded.
We value our thought, so we protect them. We reassure them, and the story we write is affected by them.
Self-limitation is a major problem.
Denial is the fear that triggers it, but it has grown so big we think it´s also making limitations feel unbeatable.
People can deny us many things. But we are the ones giving limitations a name, a danger level, and a shot to stop us.
Limitations deny possibility; denial destroys limitations and builds opportunity.
When we are denied something, we have the opportunity to look around, find new solutions, prove more theories, act on a different level.
But if we limit ourselves with denial, it´s impossible to get out of our 1 km2 prison.
So, tell me, how do you want to live?
Imprisoned in a 1 km2 world?
Or “limited” by just a few km?
The choice is yours.
The story behind it all…
Burgos, my friend, the floor is yours!
“The inspiration when writing the book came from monotonous times in which I felt very confined, dreaming of going further, although it always seemed that there was something that prevented me, it was then when I realized that if I did not take the reins of my life, nobody was going to do it.
The Deposits (home to our characters) reflect the routine in which we can all fall, where it always results in the same thing, we get up, we go to work, school, we talk to the same people, we do the same routine, we probably eat the same thing and then we return home to sleep to have an equal day the next morning.
Through this stage, I imagined 3 different qualities to which I gave a face and a voice to embody them within the pages of the book.
First, the book introduces us to Jhon, a young man wanting to eat the world, but limited by the rumors that speak of how ugly it is to leave the Deposits. Then, all his repressed freedom is expressed in the murals that he paints in one of the areas of the Deposits.
Jhon's character is quite friendly and trusting, Jhon seems to be strong, but in reality, his lack of character makes him quite the opposite. Naturally, he has the protective instinct to give everything for his other two friends.
In my opinion, Jhon represents that stage that we all have as soon as we begin to get used to a routine that we like. We feel comfortable and welcome, but that comfort can be dangerous because it can lead you to stagnate, Jhon knows.
As the story progresses, we will meet Kale, a tough-looking girl, very independent, who, even within her confinement situation, finds time to enjoy her solitude and have a good time with her friends. Dancing on the line between ordinary and extraordinary.
Kale is a rude person, at first disinterested and cutting, but this armor could well be an alibi that distracts us from who he really is, someone with doubts who, despite always leading, continues to make common mistakes derived from her emotions.
Kale represents an ordinary situation: the challenges that we are not used to, those in which we feel lacking in information, there are times when we are there on our own and there are times when we are not; in any way, we try to be ready, but at the same time aware of the failure.
Florida is the last protagonist to be introduced, she is a calm girl with an innocent appearance and a great appreciation for relationships and family, unlike the others, she seems to enjoy being inside the Deposits, after all, there they are those who love.
She stands out for her optimistic, cheerful, and innocent attitude. Someone who invites you to talk to her and have a great time together, is always willing to help others even if it sometimes gets her into trouble, she is willing to sacrifice a little peace of mind for those important to her.
Florida is written as my perception of that nostalgic feeling, like the one you get when you get back to talking to someone you missed a lot, a happy and cozy feeling, that gives you a break from everything.”
⤴️ The Weekly Update
📚 Recovering from several days without a book in my hands. Finally, I´m catching up on some episodes of… (you know it, right?) “Take the Gun”. I´m starting to introduce myself to a movie-like experience, and that´s just fascinating. It´s okay to have a slump from time to time, but always make sure you stumble paths with your happy moments from time to time!
💡 The more order prevails; the more chaos is invited. Sure, everything can be perfectly placed, but if not cared for correctly, chaos can take the reins. Practice makes the art of living. And living is the practice of being one with the order within chaos.
💭 Why is this generation so lost? Fabulous is now getting hyped up all the way to the roof, love is having many diffuse moments, and success is making your time a little bit more golden bright with some glamorous object. Just remember the value of morals and values. Those are on another level. Sad we can´t appreciate them.
