Lessons I Learned After Launching My First Book (Pt II)
Don´t let anybody deceive you. Here is a view to the backstage.
So, see you again? That´s a real Better Thinking member right there. Appreciate you friend.
The first lesson told me how to actually make a bullet-proof plan against mediocrity: always start. Always. Even if there´s a chance of failure. Doing means way more than simply staying in the same place over and over again.
It was great for starting, yet the process wasn´t just about it.
You see, there´s a whole world living behind the book you go and buy at your local bookstore (if you are still a vivid enthusiast of actually living and going for small walks that show you actual physical “reality” is worth it 🙃).
After leaving class with my own spark and motivation to start, three rough drafts full of reflections to work on and polish, and a great feeling of accomplishment…
The real mission started.
The first few mornings were impeccable.
As if the words just plunged into my head and the emotions all acted together to create that special melody to which chords you know the letter to sing along…
Weird. Abstract. Yet completely thrilling.
After those mornings, it all became blurry.
There were days when all I did were drafts.
Drafts of each poem, of each story… drafts of countless reflections.
Soon I started to feel as if I was carrying the weight of the world in my hands… the question was now: am I really the one who can finish this work?
Notice how I said finish. I was sure I could bare all the difficulties ahead, and continue iterating on my daily habit of writing.
Yet I was scared it all came to an end. An end I wasn´t so sure I could be ready for. Writing (although sometimes tedious) had become my biggest ally and impulse to tackle my day.
To make meaningful sense of actual progress on my goals and projects.
It was a grasp of hope I was gripping for.
Making vivid the fact I was acting with real conviction toward the person I wanted to be. And I´m still acting towards it.
Second lesson here: the impostor syndrome isn´t something society dictates you.
It´s a self-preservation technique you use to believe the fears you tell yourself.
On a podcast episode I jumped with Alf Viktor I talked about this, so I want to make it clear for you: if you are working towards your projects, why do you bother hearing external comments?
You are putting in the work, not them. You are preparing to tackle the next move, you are proving yourself day after day you are worth it. That´s the kind of spirit that levels each piece you make.
That´s how your identity is formed. And that´s how the impostor syndrome is gets beaten.
The third lesson here: your identity must not be a persona, but an action.
Meaning, if you want to become a writer, you start building your identity by saying: I´m the person who writes for “x” time each day, or “I write on a daily basis”.
The validation you look for yourself lies in there. ACTION.
External titles are cool, they represent a vivid milestone. Yet for nurturing your real sense of value, choose action and proof rather than titles and unique names.
Act, proof and build more.
A quick recap:
Impostor syndrome is your biggest fantasy.
Fear shall never get to beat you. Start by stacking steps and knowing you are putting in the work to get there. Show proof and you´ll never be dominated by this fear.
Your identity must not be a fancy title, instead, it must be proof you do what you preach you can build. Titles are eternal validation.
Action is your actual prize for gripping your win in every aspect of life.
I´ll see you next Saturday for another wisdom dose.
Stay tuned for the next volume of this series.

💭 The Lonely Reflection
In the tapestry of life,
There is a thread that weaves the divine.
A whisper in the midst of chaos,
a gentle grace, and that is magic
that is given to us.
