Re: Inside The Mind Of A “One-Of-A-Kind” Knowledge Worker: Dan Koe (PT III)
Distilling the Lessons of One of The Most Followed Knowledge and Entrepreneurial Leaders in Today´s World.
Welcome dear friend to the last edition of this series, if you´d want to read the past two editions, here´s where you´ll find them —> Edition I, Edition II. Sit tight, you´ll want to take some notes on this one.
Cheers.
We´ve talked about how focus is our new currency.
Whether we like it or not.
Every piece of media is competing for our energy, time, and vision. Every creator, brand, writer, author. Communities even.
You´ll consume what´s aligned with you, and you have never experienced this sense of focus until you are aware of the outputs.
With such abundant information flowing into our senses, we expect a solid grasp of the world… yet we are wrong.
This information has a grip on us. Entangling the space remaining for value and meaningful focus.
You need to curate your focus.
Every experience you have, every thought, every story.
Curation is your cure for laziness. Curation is your cure for stagnation.
Having a roadmap means developing a curated vision. It´s turning your focus into your superpower.
You are giving clarity to your life by re-connecting the dots around you.
Visualizing your aim is what you need.
“When you read a good book and stumble across a lesson that sparks excitement, write it down.”
“When you feel fulfilled in the present because of the progress you are making, write it down.”
“When you feel grateful that your past has led you to this moment, despite your mistakes, write it down.”
This idea of gathering notes is what Dan refers to as “conscious progress” (and what I like to call “mapped vision”; leave a comment if you´d like me to expand on this topic).
You sacrificing your “known” reality for one of intentional work/progress/living requires you to dive into the unknown.
Each task you focus on is a world on its own.
Meaning it´s strange and confusing at the starting line.
You wish a certain end, yet you aren´t sure how it will feel.
That´s where your “conscious progress” enters the game.
You´ve put in the work to train your focus, and even though the path might not seem clear, your actions and meaning do.
So you act and start. Relentlessly improving, like a perfect melody between your energy, focus, and outputs.
That´s what Dan admires and encourages people to do:
Create with focus in mind.
Live with intention.
Plan with clarity.
Iterate with a clear and centered mind.
Develop the type of awareness that could navigate the most turbulent of waters.
You can start by negotiating with yourself. A simple “yes” or “no” game.
Do I want to develop a conscious/focused lifestyle?
Yes or no.
Do I make progress each day with a specific goal in mind?
Yes or no.
Do I invest in growth and experience?
Yes or no.
These questions will serve as a guideline of the areas you should focus on to improve.
And you can apply this to every task or project you may want to act on: will the energy I spend doing “x” be worth it?
Try it out and let me know how it goes.
Recap:
Focus is our new currency.
We have a “Mental Real Estate”: we should use it wisely. Consume what´s necessary. Act on what´s crucial.
You guide your life through ideas, through reflections, through thinking.
Curation means being conscious about the quality of your focus.
Don´t neglect yourself a good life by having mediocre distractions or actions.
“Whether they be positive or negative, the ideas that occupy the collective mental real estate will influence the progress we make as a species.
The future belongs to those that can capture and hold attention with valuable information for the most amount of time possible.”
