Are you sure they aren´t talking about you?
I mean, I bet at least your best friend is thinking something funny/irrelevant about you at this exact same moment. They do care.
But your network isn´t only that one friend.
There are tons and tons of possible connections you may have around you.
Each one of them is interesting to you.
And each one of the spheres that englobes your whole life is part of the plots and twists of your story.
That friend, that talks about you, the people you connect with, the chats that are taken when you are not present, the whole lessons you can share with others, the backstage work that each of your projects has ongoing…
All of these spheres are part of your story.
And if you haven´t already noticed by now,
Sadly, the world is plagued with awful stories.
I don´t want to be mean, but most people who can afford to write a better story for themselves… they simply quit.
They tell themselves false narratives about what they need, want or are.
There´s a great business quote that goes somewhere between the lines: “Getting to the top of the ladder is relatively easy. Staying sane is the hard part.”
That little sentence there: staying sane is all that matters.
Because if you can´t control which chapters you want to have in your life´s story, someone else will dictate them.
Someone or something else will have power over you.
Parties, styles, necessities, diets, lifestyles, habits, relationships, social circles…
Heck, other people´s stories will guide your own.
You aren´t a one kind of a story.
Yet.
You have to earn the right to become the author of your own chapters.
Because it´s okay to gather influence or inspiration from other stories you see out there, but you´ll never learn to write your own if you don´t start asking why each and every single thing you experience and have in your life is there in the first place.
You can write a story the whole world admires.
A story the whole world respects.
And that should be the goal.
Nothing else.
In short:
Start owning responsibility for your conduct, for your actions, for your steps.
If you aren´t in a position you´d want to be in, ask why you chose to do “x”, “y”, or “z”.
Reframe the events that happen in your life as your own scripting.
You´ll soon enough be able to find gaps in your story and fix them.
I´m rooting for you,
Write your best story.
- Alex
